![]() Pokemon is the highest grossing franchise in the history of media, and with Nintendo being on a roll with a lot of their games on the Switch, this gen comes across as a major disappointment.Ī few notes on this, to add some details and explain the frustration. Some fans understandably feel pretty let down. Its only now with the games coming out soon and leaks sprouting up that the true actual number in the game (less than half of the total dex) has been revealed. The other part is that they probably knew how angry the fanbase was going to be, as they were rather quiet about this pokedex cut, and haven't been very forthcoming about information on the games. There are also questions about some of the logic of how certain pokemon were cut like Greninja (the most popular pokemon in the series) and the Lillipup line (a Yorkshire terrier based mon not being in Pokemon-England is rather weird). When they say 400, its not "only 400 catchable in the game", its "only 400 programmed into the game", meaning you can't transfer the missing mons from other games, and they have no intention of patching the game to add the rest in later. I really hope this level of outrage either convinces them to do something to solve these problems, or convinces Nintendo itself to step in and do something before Pokemon crashes harder than the Atari 2600 and loses Nintendo more money than the dang Virtual Boy! It really feels like a last-minute solution to some sort of problem they backed themselves into, as they should have known, in addition to people being mad about not be able to transfer Pokemon and their favorites not being in Gen 8, etc, that the people who were paying their monthly subscription price (like $10 USD per month if I remember right) for PokeBank were going to be extremely upset that they were paying for something that was now rendered pretty much pointless. Indeed, I find it frankly very odd that Gamefreak created the PokeBank app just a year ago or so (if I remember correctly it was around the time Ultra Sun and Moon were released), which was advertised as being the method for transferring Pokemon between Gens FOR ALL GAMES GOING FORWARD, only to then turn around less than a year later and tell everyone "Just kidding, you won't be able to transfer ANYTHING AT ALL to Gen 8!". Not that I'm saying this controversy is stupid, however. Yes, the Gen 1 remakes that were release during Gen 3 (Fire Red and Leaf Green) meant that you could get all 150 (possibly 151, I'm not sure if New was in Fire Red and Leaf Green as I never played them) of the Gen 1 Pokemon in a Gen 3 game and transfer them all the way up to Gen 7, but that's not the same as Pokemon being able to be transferred from the games released almost 30 years ago all the way up to the current Gen. Although you could transfer Pokemon between Gen 1 and Gen 2, you notably COULD NOT transfer Pokemon between Gen 2 and Gen 3, meaning that there is nobody who has Pokemon from the original three games that they transferred all the way up to Gen 7 and hoped they could transfer into Sword and Shield.
